Greensboro, NC (05/08/2024) — Greensboro, NC - In front of a packed house at Barber Park, the Greensboro College Softball team took down Meredith 7-1 to advance to the USA South Conference Championship series. The win secures the Pride's second straight trip to the conference championship.

The game was delayed from its original date of Saturday, May 4th because of rain. Greensboro got started right away in the first inning, scoring two runs to take an early 2-0 lead. Alexis Sox tripled to center field to drive home the first run, and later Kelsey Craven hit a sacrifice fly.

The Pride held a 2-0 lead through the fourth inning, as Lauren Engel dominated the Avenging Angels lineup early on. In the fifth, the Greensboro defense committed two errors and Meredith pushed across their first run. Engel was able to get out of the jam however, and Greensboro kept a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Pride bats caught fire and scored five runs to put the game out of reach. Sox hit a two-RBI double followed by a Craven RBI double. Later, Raven Taylor knocked home a run to cap off the big inning.

Engel then got the Avenging Angels in order in the seventh inning to finish off the win. Engel gave up four hits and zero earned runs with one walk. With her performance, her season ERA is now 1.56.
