Five Greensboro College Athletes Earn USA South Weekly Honors

Greensboro, NC (09/01/2025) — It was a big week for Greensboro College athletes, as five players from three different teams took home USA South Conference weekly honors.

In men's soccer, Jade Diane and Alvaro Hermosa swept the weekly awards, as Diane earned Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, while Hermosa earned Defender of the Week. Diane, a freshman from Monchengladbach, Germany, scored 2 goals and had an assist in the team's 8-1 victory over Carolina Christian. Hermosa, a junior transfer from Genesee Community College, started in goal for the Pride and had 7 saves.

For women's soccer, Shae Brennan, earned Player of the Week after scoring what would be the game-winning goal against Eastern Mennonite in a 3-0 shutout victory. Brennan scored the first goal of the game in the second half off a free kick to put Greensboro out in front. Claire Friedlander and Hilary Graley scored the final two goals of the match. Freshman goalkeeper Shyann Hansen won USA South Rookie of the Week after a 4 save performance in net. Hansen made multiple big saves to keep the Royals off the scoreboard and teamed with fellow keeper Carlisle Dozier to complete the shutout.

Morgan Mayfield, the reigning USA South Libero of the Year, earned Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 5.67 digs/set in two wins on Saturday. She recorded 19 digs against St. Mary's College of Maryland along with 5 assists. Against Warren Wilson, Mayfield had 15 digs and 2 service aces.
