Greensboro College Athletics Announces 2026 Hall of Fame Class
Greensboro, NC (06/09/2026) — Greensboro College Athletics has announced their 2026 Hall of Fame class. The class includes Kevin Besecker ('90), Ryan Throndset ('15), Amy Gibson, Jess Maloney, and the 1994-95 Men's Basketball team.
Besecker set himself apart as one of the most impactful players in program history. Playing from 1986-1990, Besecker played a key role for the then Hornets on and off the court. He scored over 1,000 career points while still currently being ranked top-10 all-time in games played, three-point field goals made, three-point field goals attempted, three-point percentage and free throws attempted. Besecker averaged 9.7 points per-game, totaled 129 three-pointers made, and shot 40% from beyond the arc. Besecker played all four seasons under head coach, Jim Tribbett, and was part of two teams (86-87, 88-89) that reached the Dixie Conference Tournament Semifinals. He also served as a team captain for two seasons, cementing his role as a leader while being lauded for his determination and effort by his peers.
Throndset is the greatest quarterback in school history, as he leads in all major career passing categories for the football program. Throndset is the career leader in passing attempts, completions, yards, touchdowns, completion percentage, passing yards per-game, and second in passing efficiency. Throndset also holds the single-game records for passes attempted, passes completed, passing yards, and tied for first in passing touchdowns. For his career, Throndset completed 787 passes, threw for 8,686 yards, 67 touchdowns, and a 58% completion percentage, while averaging over 215 passing yards per game.
Gibson was a standout player on the volleyball court under the leadership fellow hall of famer, Jean Lojko, from 2000-2002. Gibson still ranks in the top-10 for career kills per set, hitting percentage, total blocks, and blocks per set. She totaled 1,010 kills while also collecting 324 blocks. Gibson was named DIAC Rookie of the Year, Second Team All-Conference, and made the DIAC All-Tournament Team in 2000. She was named First Team All-Conference in 2001, and in 2002 was named DIAC Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Gibson was also part of the 2000 team that reached the DIAC Tournament Championship game.
Maloney was a star on the baseball diamond from 2006-2007. Maloney is tied for second all-time in program history in batting average, second in slugging, tied for fourth in on-base percentage, and tied for second in home runs. In 2006, Maloney was an ABCA Second Team All-American, First Team All-Region, USA South Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, and a NCCSIA All-State selection. Maloney helped lead that 2006 team to a USA South Tournament Championship Series appearance.
The 1994-95 Men's Basketball team is the second team to go in the Hall of Fame (1993-94 the other) under the leadership of Hall of Fame head coach, Sam Hanger. That season, Greensboro made a magical run to the DIAC Conference Title game and took down Christopher Newport 81-80 in the final minutes to secure an NCAA Tournament berth. Greensboro would then go on to win round one of the tournament, defeating Oglethorpe 87-70, before falling to Hampden-Sydney in round two.
That season, Kevin Beard was named DIAC First Team All-Conference and was selected to the All-Tournament Team. James Snipes was named Second Team All-Conference, while Duane Williams and Corrie McClary were also named to the All-Tournament Team. Greensboro went 19-10 overall while averaging over 89 points per-contest.
The 2026 Greensboro College Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Friday, October 2 as part of homecoming weekend.
