Greensboro College Awards 2022-2023 Moore Professorship to John Saari

There was an error that needed to be corrected. In the opening line, the original version of the story mistakenly had the incorrect title and department information of John Saari.

Greensboro, NC (05/30/2023) — Greensboro College has named John Saari, Professor of Theatre Design and Technology, its Moore Professor for 2022-2023.

John received his B.A. from Lake Superior State University, also completed a degree in Comparative Economic and Political Systems at Georgetown University along with internship in the United States Congress in the office of Robert Dornan, 27th District of California.

He also received his M.F.A. from Virginia Polytechnic College and State University. He joined Greensboro College in 1990 after Designing for the City of Greensboro's Drama Unit programs, and several years at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Louisville, KY.

John has received the Exemplary Teacher Award in 2020 and the Moore Professorship in 2006 from Greensboro College. He also received the Marian A. Smith Distinguished Career Award from the North Carolina Theatre Conference in 2017 and the United States Institute of Theatre Technology Southeast Region Founders Award in 2005. Currently John is the Master Class Mentor for USITT-SE where he has served on the executive committee for 28 years. John most recently, received a the University Resident Theatre Association Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Training -Properties Design at the Annual URTA Award presentations this past January.

The Moore Professor Award is presented annually at Commencement to a member of the college's full-time faculty for the subsequent academic year. It recognizes an outstanding accomplishment or set of accomplishments, such as the publication of a scholarly work, the creation or performance of an artistic work, meritorious service to the college, or recognition by a professional organization.

Greensboro College provides a liberal arts education grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church and fosters the intellectual, social, and, spiritual development of all students while supporting their individual needs.

Founded in 1838 and located in downtown Greensboro, the college enrolls about 1,000 students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and a dozen foreign countries in its undergraduate liberal-arts program and six master's degree programs.

In addition to rigorous academics and a well-supported Honors program, the school features a 17-sport NCAA Division III athletic program and dozens of service and recreational opportunities.
