Greensboro College Grants Retiring Professor Cal Bond Jr. Emeritus Status During Commencement

Greensboro, NC (05/11/2022) — Greensboro College's Cal Bond Jr., a professor of biology, was granted emerita status during the college's Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 7.

Emeritus/emerita status may be awarded to a Greensboro College faculty member who has limited or terminated his/her responsibilities as a faculty member for reasons such as retirement after 10 or more years of distinguished service to the college.

Cal Bond, who was appointed to the GC Faculty in 1994, graduated from Amherst College (MA) with a Bachelor's in Biology and received his Ph.D. in Biology from UNC-Chapel Hill. His research interests are wide-ranging: he has collaborated on research projects on bird predation on monarch butterflies and on shark reproductive biology, but most of his research has concerned cell behavior and development in sponges.

Dr. Bond had also been the recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Teacher Award of the college.
