Greensboro College Jazz Ensemble, Trumpeter, Ashlin Parker to Host Free Concert
Greensboro, NC (03/06/2024) — The Greensboro College Jazz Ensemble, in its final performance of the spring 2024 semester, will be joined by renowned trumpeter, Ashlin Parker, to present a concert on April 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Gail Brower Huggins Performance Center at the college's Odell Building.
A versatile jazz trumpeter based in New Orleans, Ashlin Parker is sought after for big band, small ensemble, and solo performances. He has played with various ensembles at jazz festivals and clubs all around the world. Ashlin leads the Trumpet Mafia and plays regularly with ensembles in New Orleans, such as the Ellis Marsalis Quintet, The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, and Bill Summers and Jazalsa.
Ashlin has played on more than 30 albums with other musicians such as Ellis Marsalis, Jason Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis, Herlin Riley, Roland Guerin, Leroy Jones, Derek Douget, Dr. John, Karl Denson, Igor Butman, and Nicholas Payton, as well as vocalists, Rafael Saadiq, the O'Jays, Anthony Hamilton, Aretha Franklin, Quiana Lynell, Tiffany Austin, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. He shared the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble for the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra's debut album, entitled Book One. Parker holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Shenandoah University Conservatory (2005) and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of New Orleans (2009).
Students, faculty, staff, and the greater Greensboro community are invited to attend the performance, which is a free show.
On the same day, Parker will also be hosting a masterclass for musicians at 3 p.m. at the college's Huggins Performance Center, which also will be free.
