Greensboro College Music Department to Perform Opera Workshop

by Matthew Johnson

Greensboro, NC (03/06/2024) — The Greensboro College Music Department is proud to present its spring Opera Workshop, a performance of Mozart's The Impresario on Friday, March 15th, and Saturday, March 16th at 7:30 pm in the Gayle Brower Huggins Performance Center. The performances are free and open to the public.

A comic opera, the story revolves around an exhausted but quick-witted theatre owner who wants to get out of the business. However, they are plagued by a Viennese banker who is the agent of an aging opera singer and a young ingenue singer, as well as his eager assistant who wants to be an opera singer and is pushing for his boss to produce a new series of operas. The two female singers are often ready to come to blows as the banker and assistant aggressively try to get the opera series approved.

The productions will feature both music students - Emily Gearhart, Zoe Winslow, and Brayden Gregory, as well as three Greensboro College alumni, Heidi Shaffmaster Riggs '98, Justin McKinney '16), and Paul Freeman '17.

For questions or information on the performance, call 336-217-7220.
