Greensboro College Theatre Department Presents: "Merrily We Roll Along "

by Matthew Johnson

Greensboro, NC (01/31/2024) — The Greensboro College Theatre Department is proud to present its first play of the spring semester, "Merrily We Roll Along," from February 22-24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Gail Brower Huggins Performance Center in the Odell Memorial Building on campus.

The show will be directed by David Schram, professor emeirtus of theatre; he was a full-time professor at Greensboro College for 32 years prior to his retirement in spring of 2021. Schram also served as dean of the faculty and dean of the School of the Arts while at Greensboro College.

Music Direction will be done by Blake Moran and choreography will be done by Ashley Hyers.

The music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim and the book is by George Furth.

The show tells the story of how three friends' lives and friendship change over the course of 20 years; it focuses particularly on Franklin Shepard, a talented composer of musicals who, over those 20 years, abandons his friends and songwriting career to become a producer of Hollywood movies. Like the play on which it is based, the show's story moves backward in time, beginning in 1976 at the friends' lowest moment and ending in 1957, at their youthful best. The show will have its first Broadway revival in fall 2023, starring Jonathan Groff ("King George- Hamilton), Daniel Radcliff ("Harry Potter") and Lindsay Mendez ("Carrie- Carousel").

For questions or information on the performance, call 336-217-7220 or email tickets@greensboro.edu

Each of the performances is free to the general public.
