Greensboro College Women's Soccer Opens Season with 3-0 Win Over Eastern Mennonite

Greensboro, NC (08/30/2025) — Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro College Women's Soccer team got a second half offensive surge to defeat Eastern Mennonite University 3-0 in their season opening game on Pride Field.

The game was scoreless after the first 45 minutes of play, as both teams played well defensively and both goal keepers had multiple key saves. Greensboro did dominate the half in shots taken, as they took 9 shots against the Royals' 2.

EMU had two good looks on goal to open the second half but couldn't capitalize, and the score remained 0-0. However, 2024 USA South First Team All-Conference defender Shae Brennan broke the scoreless tie with a free kick from just outside the left corner of the goalie box and hit a strike to the lower right corner of the net to give the Pride a 1-0 advantage.

Just five minutes later, Claire Friedlander scored her first goal of the season to make the score 2-0 in favor of Greensboro. The Pride defense stood strong the rest of the contest, and in the 80th minute, Hilary Graley scored her first career goal on a header that was assisted by freshman Alex Dawson. Greensboro would finish off the Royals and begin the season 1-0.

After the game, coach Mike Johnston said about the win, "it's always good to get out on the right foot. Super proud of our captains...Shae got a goal, Clair got a goal...I thought Abby Lush was fantastic playing some huge minutes. Everybody contributed...for me I think we have to sure up some defending. We gave up some chances we don't expect to give up, but definitely something to build on."

Greensboro plays again on September 3rd at Pride Field as they host Bob Jones at 4:00 pm.
