Greensboro Softball Sweeps Guilford College on Wednesday Afternoon

Greensboro College Softball Defeats Guilford Colllege

Greensboro, NC (03/21/2024) — The Greensboro Softball team (11-7) traveled to cross town rival Guilford (8-8) and got a sweep of the Quakers. Game one went extra innings while game two was dominated by Greensboro.

Game One:

Game one was a wild one as the Pride outlasted the Quakers in eight innings. The Pride had a 5-2 lead in the sixth inning, when with bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, Guilford got a huge grand slam by Alli Clemens to take a 6-5 lead. The Pride came back to tie the game in the sixth inning, and then took a 7-6 lead after a M'Kenzie Davis double in the seventh inning.

Guilford tied the game with a two out solo homer by Clemens again to tie the game 7-7. In the eighth, Greensboro came through with three runs to take a 10-7 advantage. Kelsey Craven had an RBI double followed by a Rigdon Lambeth RBI single. Ivy Ray then singled to left field to make it 10-7. Lauren Engel got the final three outs to finish the off the win.

Game Two:

Game two saw the bats explode for fourteen runs while getting a strong start from Katherine Charlton in the circle. The Pride had 19 hits in game two, including four hit games from Alexis Sox and Ivy Ray.

With Greensboro ahead 3-2, Kelsey Craven hit a two RBI single to make the score 5-2. Ivy Ray then singled home a run to cap off a four run second inning. Leading 9-4, Sox blasted one over the left field fence for her first homerun of the season. For the game, Sox had a homer, two doubles, and four RBI.

Katherine Charlton came up with a big performance in the circle, going all seven innings. She struck out five Quakers batters while giving up four runs.

Greensboro will host senior day this weekend at Barber Park against Mid-Atlantic Christian. Stay tuned to greensborocollegesports.com for potential schedule changes due to weather.
