Greensboro College Baseball Advances to Conference Championship Series
Greensboro, NC (05/05/2025) — Asheboro, NC - The Greensboro College Baseball team has advanced to the USA South Conference Championship Series for the first time since 2019 with two wins over Brevard on Friday. The Pride went 3-0 in the first round of the tournament, as they also defeated Pfeiffer on Thursday.
Game One: Greensboro 8, Brevard 4
The Pride took down the Tornados 8-4 in the first game of the day, putting them one win shy of advancing to the conference championship series. Greensboro got a strong start from senior Nick Stegura, who went 5.2 innings, giving up 4 runs, 5 hits, and striking out 4. Michael Richards earned the save, going the final 3.1 innings with 2 strikeouts.
After being down 2-0 in the first, the Pride came back in the bottom half of the frame and scored 3 runs. In the third, Rush Bowman launched a home run to left-center field to extend the lead to 5-2. After a Chris Le RBI single in the fourth, Bowman struck again in the fifth with an RBI single.
Brevard scored 2 runs in the sixth, but that would be all they would get as Greensboro took game one. Le would also break the program record for hits in a season with 69 during the contest, surpassing teammate Brody Gardner's record from 2024.
Game Two: Greensboro 16, Brevard 5
Greensboro's offense came out hot in game two by scoring 7 runs in the first inning. The inning included another homer from Bowman, this time a 3-run shot. The score would be 7-1 going into the sixth inning before the Tornados struck for 3 runs to cut the lead to 7-4.
After the teams traded runs, the Pride scored 3 in the seventh and 5 in the eighth to blow the game open. In the eighth, Mike Rinaldi hit a grand slam that also broke the single season program record for home runs in a season as a team with 35. Later, Myles Vacharasin hit a solo home run for his second of the year.
On the mound was Hunter Anderson, who went 6.0 innings to get the win. Isaiah Faudoa and Stephen Dunlow closed the Tornados out to finish the game.
The Pride had 3 home runs and 4 doubles on the game to go along with 6 walks.
Greensboro will travel to Methodist for the championship series beginning on Thursday.
