Seven Greensboro College Football Players Make USA South All-Conference Team
Greensboro, NC (11/22/2024) — GREENSBORO, NC- Seven members of the Greensboro College Pride football team were named to the post-season All-Conference awards list, with senior linebacker Max Steele leading the way with his second consecutive First Team selection. Defensive linemen Frank Walker and Deshawn Holman, as well as defensive back JaJuan Givens and return specialist Ja'Shawn Harris earned Second Team honors, with tight end Wes Kidd garnering Honorable Mention recognition. Additionally, quarterback Josh Sims was tabbed to the All-Sportsmanship team.
Once again, Steele was the centerpiece of the Greensboro defense in 2024, racking up 80 tackles and 1 sack, while also recovering a fumble. In his final career game, he surpassed Allen Stallings for most career tackles in Greensboro history, finishing with 381 and never recording fewer than 80 tackles in a season (while twice going over the century mark). He also closed out his career with six career sacks and an interception.
Freshman Frank Walker put together an impressive campaign, notching 3.5 sacks and 35 tackles. Against Southern Virginia on September 28th, he recorded 1.5 sacks and five tackles, only to outpace those numbers in the season's final game, recording 11 stops and 2.0 sacks against Huntingdon.
Holman matched Walker with an identical 3.5 sacks and 35 tackles in 2024, as the junior from Thomasville bumped his career sacks total to 4.5. Holman's standout game of 2024 was also the Southern Virginia contest, where he racked up five tackles and 1.5 sacks in a 42-23 Greensboro win.
JaJuan Givens' senior year saw the talented defensive back notch 79 tackles, force two fumbles, and record an interception. Givens tallied 10 tackles in a game three times in 2024, including the first and last games of the season. He leaves Greensboro with 167 career stops, 1.5 sacks, three interceptions and two fumbles forced.
Harris once again provided the electricity in the Pride's return game in 2024, averaging 24.9 yards per kick return, including a 92-yard touchdown return against N.C. Wesleyan. The speedy sophomore now has two kick return touchdowns at Greensboro, tied for the most in a career. And for good measure, he added 321 receiving yards and five touchdowns as a wide receiver.
Kidd, another of the strong senior class the Pride boasted in 2024, proved to be a threat in the red zone after a slow start to the season. After not scratching the score sheet in the seasons first three games, Kidd broke out against Southern Virginia, hauling in seven passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. He finished the season with 20 catches for 198 yards and four touchdown receptions.
Josh Sims threw his first career pass on October 12th on the road against Brevard, and would assume starting quarterback duties by season's end. The sophomore ended the season with four touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 50% of his passes. He notched a career-best 214 yards against Maryville, throwing for one touchdown and one interception in the process.
The seven Pride players named in the USA South Athletic Conference's postseason awards announcement marks a second straight year in which Greensboro was well represented. In 2023 nine players under Coach Card were recognized with end-of-season awards.
