Greensboro College Football Falls to Huntingdon 17-10

Greensboro, NC (10/13/2025) — Greensboro College Football (1-4, 0-2) hosted Huntingdon College (3-2, 2-0) on Saturday at Pride Field. Despite a strong defensive effort, Greensboro would fall to the Hawks 17-10.

Greensboro scored midway through the first quarter when Reagan Sawyer hit a 20-yard field goal to put Greensboro ahead 3-0. Late in the quarter, the Pride defense made a key stop to force the Hawks to settle for a field goal themselves, and the teams were tied 3-3 going to the second quarter.

Greensboro would take the ball downfield on a 4:24 drive midway through the second quarter and cap off the drive with a Shamar Privette rushing touchdown to take a 10-3 lead. However, Huntingdon would answer with a touchdown of their own on a 33-yard touchdown pass with just under 4:00 to play in the first half. Neither team would score again before the half, and would go into the locker room tied 10-10.

Early in the third quarter, Huntingdon looked to take the lead with a field goal, but Will Pailthorpe blocked a 27-yard field goal attempt to keep the score tied. Unfortunately, the Hawks defense stood strong and wouldn't allow the Pride offense to capitalize on the ensuing possession.

The game-winning score would come with 5:04 left in the third quarter, as the Hawks hit on a short 5-yard touchdown pass to get their first lead of the game, 17-10. Greensboro couldn't get enough going on offense the rest of the way, and the Pride would fall to Huntingdon by that same 17-10 score.

Greensboro's defense was a big story in this one. They held Huntingdon to just 119 passing yards, including a Ziere Ray interception in the fourth quarter. Offensively, Chase Altis threw for 145 yards on 15 completions. They also won the time of possession battle 30:14 to 29:10. The Hawks came up big defensively when they needed to, however, as Greensboro was just 1-4 on fourth down. Greensboro also only scored twice on four possessions inside the red-zone.

Larry Jones and Deshawn Holman had 6 tackles each, while Holman had 1.5 tackles for loss and a half sack. Ziere Ray also had 1 sack on top of his interception and 5 tackles. Offensively, Kyjuan Westmoreland ran for 48 yards on 13 carries, while KJ Brown had 7 receptions for 70 yards.

Next Saturday, Greensboro travels to Belhaven, who currently sits tied for first place in the USA South.
