Greensboro College's Amery Skinner wins USA South Women's Soccer Player of the Year
Greensboro, NC (11/05/2024) — GREENSBORO, NC- Greensboro women's soccer midfielder Amery Skinner has been named the USA South Athletic Conference's Women's Soccer Player of the Year for 2024 following an outstanding campaign.
Skinner led the Pride with 12 goals during the regular season, ranking second in the conference, while chipping in four assists. In conference play, Skinner tallied 13 points on five goals and three assists as she helped the Pride shake off an 0-6 start to finish the year 10-8-1 (7-2 in conference) and qualify for the USA South Conference tournament. For all her efforts, in addition to being named Player of the Year, she also took home first team all-conference honors as a midfielder for the second straight year.
Pride head coach Mike Johnston said that from day one, Skinner has gone above and beyond as a player, teammate, and leader. "Amery is a fantastic player, a phenomenal leader, and an even better person. I am truly ecstatic for Amery and our program. Since her first day with us, she has been the consummate teammate and has made everyone around her better day in and day out. She is always willing to do the little things, both on and off the field, to make our group better. She is simply a joy to coach, and from where I sit, I've enjoyed watching her grow as a player these last two years, and this is indeed, a well-deserved honor for a remarkable young lady."
Skinner's regular season success carried over into the first round of the conference tournament, where she netted three goals in Greensboro's 4-0 blanking of N.C. Wesleyan in the quarterfinals, earning them a trip to Methodist for the semifinal round.
Skinner, a senior from Fuquay-Varina, NC who is majoring in exercise science, has tallied 61 career points in just two seasons at Greensboro, just five shy of cracking the top 10 in program history. Her 28 career goals put her in a tie for eighth most in school history, while her 1.52 points per game rate is good for fourth all-time at Greensboro.
